Morocco has the most different cuisine from American so far on this trip. My dad was telling me how sick I was going to get from the food and I believed him, but in the end none of us got sick, which was relieving to me. Most importantly the food was really good
A restaurant called Nomad was probably my favorite traditional Moroccan restaurant. We went there on my dad’s birthday. I had the Berber couscous. It had beef on top of couscous and vegetables in some sort of sauce that was slightly spicy. It was amazing because the texture of the beef was nice and stringy. Everything was just done very well and so I gobbled it down. For dessert, I had spiced chocolate extra rich cake with spiced chocolate ice cream. I found that the combination of spices and chocolate was not for me but it was an interesting and good idea.
Next is a raspberry and almond smoothie. I know it is less of a food but in the next few reviews you will be seeing more of this because in Morocco, Egypt, and Cyprus there are going to be a lot of amazing juices. First of all I love smoothies. Before we started this trip every Friday after school I would make a smoothie for my family out of the smoothie recipes I wrote. This smoothie was done amazingly. The Perfect amount of ice, not too much almond, and very flavorful. My mom said she wouldn’t take a sip until I was finished because she knew I wouldn’t finish it, but she was wrong.
` Next I am going to tell you about a restaurant that certainly doesn’t belong in this review but it was so good I just couldn’t leave it out. When we found out there was a Chili’s in Marrakech, Morocco we had to go. I got the sirloin steak with shrimp. First of all, the steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare. There was a sweet, sour, and spicy sauce on it. Then there were 4 grilled shrimp that are just impossible to not like.
This one is more of a general thing, and over time I changed my feelings about it. The first time I had Moroccan bread was my first night in Morocco. You get it everywhere you go with free unlimited refills without even asking. At first, I really liked it, but over time I started to get tired of it. The best thing about it is the coarsely ground semolina on the bottom and top. There are two ways to cook it: oven or frying pan. I prefer the frying pan. I made this with my mom at a Moroccan baking class along with the next food.
Next is a bread called M’smen I like to think about it as Mmmmmmm’smen because it is amazing. The taste and color are similar to Indian paratha but the texture is different. It is a ton of very thin flakey layers. The layers are made by simply folding a square piece of dough.
I wasn’t a big fan of the camel burger when I ate it. I was very excited to try it because I had not even seen camel on menu’s so it was my choice immediately. It kind of tasted like lamb with herbs in it. Another problem with it is they made the burger too tall, have you ever had those burgers you just cant eat cause theres so much stuff on it well that was what the camel burger was like
Last but not least beef and veggie skewers, a food that I just gobbled up. There is no particular restaurant I had beef and veggie skewers that I want to point out. I just really liked it everywhere I had it. The concept is good. grilled beef and grilled veggies are just something you can’t go wrong with. Everywhere I had it, it was done perfectly.
I am very impressed with the cuisine of Morocco. Instead of giving each food a rating I am going to rate the average in my opinion of all of the cuisine. I give Morocco 5 ½ Carl family chickens.
Bravo for your post and for your enthusiastic embrace of new eating experience. There is indeed a whole world out there. Love you.
Wow Rainier. Amazing. I’m so impressed with all your breads. You’re a much better cook than your aunt! Thank you for sharing this. Can’t wait until we have a smoothie together again. Love you.
Awesome reviews!!! Thank you for sharing!! I am super impressed with how you have embraced all of the different foods and cultures. Looking forward to the next review!
